Born Lana A Whitaker in Clearfield PA, lived and grew up in the rural forests of Beech Creek, the town of Mill Hall and and (mostly) the Ross Library in Lock Haven. I’m 30 years of age. I have two older sisters who have made me a happy Aunt several times over. I married in 2010 and my (wonderful) husband and I currently live in Mill Hall with our two cats and puppy.
I have had experience working the various flavors of customer service, enjoyed the opportunity to work summer stock theatre at Millbrook Playhouse, and always wish to continue learning.
My earliest interest in HTML and websites started when I was about 13. GeoCities was the ‘big man’ for personal webpages at the time and they offered free web hosting and site support, so I wanted to take a shot at making my own website(s). I was introduced to the basics by the (then) Ross Library’s Children’s Librarian. I started out looking at the way other pages were built, deconstructing them and learning how all the bits work and worked together. I had at one point, a Lola Bunny fan page, a Animorphs fan and upcoming news page, and I had another page that was about myself and the other webpages that I enjoyed at the time which I linked to. It seems like a very archaic setup, looking now at what websites have become.
My reason for currently working for my Bachelor of Science Degree in Web and Interactive Media (BIM), is because I have always enjoyed working on and designing websites. From the most basic HTML to the severely cantankerous PHP and JavaScrip. This will actually be my second degree with Penn College, the first was for an Associate of Applied Arts Degree (A.A.A.).
My hope with this degree is to find employment working for a company that looks for ideas from a creative and inquisitive employee, no mater the department or division, who allows for movement within the company, and who looks at skills and drive before titles.
My skills and knowledge are ever increasing as I have progressed through this degree and push myself to learn outside of class as well.
I truly savor the work I put in to build up a well rounded knowledge base. I enjoy building a site from the ground up and then looking at the completed project, happy knowing “I made that”.
